Meridian, ID is among the Top 10 Towns for Families, featured in Family Circle's August 2010 issue
(Fri, 13 Aug 2010 13:10:14 -0600)

As shared by Mayor Tammy de Weerd, "...This is a great recognition for our community and I’m extremely grateful for your contributions and your continued role in shaping our vibrant city and its related successes.  Our community partners range from Neighborhood Watch enthusiasts to our active civic organizations; to our diverse faith communities and our entrepreneurial spirit and corporate citizenship; to our youth organizations and the many patrons that support our amazing and progressive education partners.

Together we’ve created, and are nurturing, a community that families want to be a part of; I have no doubt these collaborative efforts are why we continue to receive national attention.  Meridian is recognized as a community that blends big-city opportunities through arts and cultural opportunities with choices in housing; that offers an ideal blend of affordable housing, good jobs, top-rated schools, and wide-open spaces; and a lot less stress than many other cities and towns.  The City of Meridian continues to place great importance to our fiscal responsibility, to public safety, and to places to gather and to play – all are areas that matter to our citizens..."

Summer kicks off in Paramount with an Outdoor Concert and Fourth of July Festivities
(Fri, 25 Jun 2010 11:32:49 -0600)

It's a not-so-well-kept secret that there is something special about Paramount residents and their amazing sense of community spirit and creativity! Both of these attributes are evidenced by this weekend's upcoming Outdoor Summer Concert featuring J.R. and the Stringrays, and in the following weekend with a spectacular Fourth of July Bash. Paramount's Events/Hospitality Committee is hosting both of these events, with special thanks to these incredible volunteers: Liz Iverson, Shannon McNall, Marsha Hoffpauer, Michele Anderson, Melanie Fitzgerald, Anne Smith, Doug and Nadine Reece along with many others. Thank you!

"And the Survey says..." Paramount Residents Weigh-in on Events & Activities
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 11:06:46 -0700)

Survey_monkey

The Events/Hospitality Committee conducted an online survey for residents to provide feedback on what types of events and activities were valued in the neighborhood. We had 72 respondents complete the survey - which was great and more than we expected! The top three events are 1) Summer Concerts, 2) Easter Egg Hunt & Fourth of July Parade (tie), and 3) Harvest Festival.

We were surprised that Adult Cooking Classes had high interest in the Activities section, as well as Fitness/Training Workshops and a recreational volleyball league. The committee is researching how to add these opportunities within the neighborhood.

We are looking forward to another great year of events at Paramount and thank you to all the residents who completed the survey! The results are attached for your reference and as always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me 208/250-2774 cell.

Join Us in Supporting Haiti
(Thu, 04 Feb 2010 03:05:32 -0700)

Hoefer_blog MAF_photo1 Haiti-plane

Please join us this Friday evening to hear some endearing stories of Haiti in the aftermath of the recent earthquake, and how its effects have touched one Paramount family.

We have asked residents Scott and Abby Hoefer to share the story of their recent adoption of Alex, a three-year-old boy from Haiti who just joined his new family last week. The adoption was completed after three years of moving through the international adoption process, with the earthquake accelerating the release of the final documents. Scott and Abby and their three daughters are very happy to finally have Alex with them and we would like to express our happiness for them at this special event.

Also available will be Brian Shepson, a pilot from Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF.org), to speak about their recent experiences in Haiti and how the help and relief really are making a difference. (Brian just returned from Haiti on January 28.) MAF has had a presence in Haiti for over 20 years, and 100% of the funds raised this evening will go directly towards Haiti. This is a family-friendly event with the stories appropriate for both an adult and younger audience.

If you would like to support MAF but are unable to attend this event, please make your tax deductible donation at www.MAF.org - thank you!

Date: February 5  |  7 to 8 p.m.

Location:       Community Center, 5695 N. Fox Way Run Way

We hope to see you there!

A warm thank you to all the residents and supporters of Paramount's Coat Drive this past December! The Events/Hospitality Committee selected the Keep Kids Warm campaign as the benefitting charity for this year's annual event. Together we donated 44 coats and 15 sets of hats, scarves, mittens and gloves! The Giving Tree in the community center, where all the items were collected, was a spectacular sight at the end of the drive and such a great reminder of the generosity of this amazing neighborhood! (The letter of appreciation and radio clip are attached.) Thank you again!

Paramount Cheer Club off to a great start!
(Thu, 10 Dec 2009 13:47:11 -0700)

We got spirit - yes we do! We got spirit - how 'bout you?! The Paramount Cheer Club kicked off the holiday season with a parade float in the Boise Holiday Parade on November 28. Nearly 35 little cheerleaders, ages 4 - 12, were warmly dressed in their Paramount Cheer Club Sweatshirts and matching scarves, complete with Santa hats for a good measure of holiday cheer!

The Paramount Cheer Club held its first practice in early September 2009, with a recreational cheerleading curriculum.  Since that time, the team has grown to 45 members.  Since its start just a few months ago,  the team has performed at the Paramount Harvest Festival and cheered at a basketball game with the Heritage Middle School Cheerleaders.  We plan to continue to find oppurtunities to perform and continue our practices where we learn jumps, motions, technique, cheers and dances. We are an enthusiastic group that loves to cheer! To learn more about our program, please feel free to contact me at slaven_jessica@yahoo.com.

Neighborhood Coat Drive Kicks-off with Children's Christmas Party
(Wed, 02 Dec 2009 16:33:27 -0700)

Coatdrive_web

Brighton Corporation and the Paramount Events/Hospitality Committee are pleased to be hosting a neighborhood Children’s Christmas Party on Friday, December 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the community center in Paramount. As in previous years, the central theme of the event is “giving” with a large Giving Tree (Christmas tree) ready to be decorated with donated hats, scarves and mittens. New or gently used coats and large outerwear items will be arranged underneath the tree. The committee selected KIZN 92 radio station’s “Keep Kids Warm” campaign as the benefitting charity this season.

Other festivities during the party include holiday crafts, games, refreshments and visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus. It's rumored that the famous couple are due to arrive in Paramount at 6:15 p.m., driving up in a bright red Torino, fully-loaded Christmas style! It's sure to be a fabulous sight!

A large tote will be stationed near the front entrance for donation drops through December 18, at which time all donated items will be delivered to the radio station for distribution. Thank you for considering this donation drive as part of your holiday cheer!

A Harvest Festival Thank You
(Mon, 23 Nov 2009 17:32:43 -0700)
For a third year, Paramount's Harvest Festival was celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm! The music, games, coloring contest, jump tent, face painting and other activities were a blast, as evidenced by smiling faces galore...this was yet another signature Paramount event that brings our community closer together. As a resident, I would like to say thank you to everyone that participated and made this a fabulous event!

Growth in more than just Academics at Paramount Elementary School
(Wed, 11 Nov 2009 16:38:22 -0700)

Paramount students are growing more than just academically. With the enrollment cap lifted, our reputation isn’t all that seems to be increasing at Paramount Elementary School. Starting our third year, we have grown from 650 students (when we opened) to 800 this fall, but our quality has always remained high. Being able to include all students from the Paramount community has been a great benefit to both the school and the neighborhood. Our students can now learn together as well as play together.

Paramount Elementary School was created around the idea of blending high academic standards with character excellence. We are a progressive school with traditional values. We place a strong emphasis on literacy through our use of the Spalding instruction and good citizenship with our character programs. All of the staff have a great love for the students and are skilled in their specific areas to best serve everyone. We are also noted for our wonderful volunteers and parents who put in countless hours around the school helping to enrich students’ education.

As a neighborhood school, we love opening our doors and fields to local recreational organizations as well as a place to just come and play. Our intermediate grade students may participate in Honor Choir, student council and recycling club. All children receive weekly time in P.E., music classes, health, computer and library.

We strive to make our students’ learning environment as safe and welcoming as we can. Education is a team project, and we invite your involvement both at home and in the classroom. Paramount Elementary’s entire team of educational professionals have done an amazing job of bringing the magic to the classrooms, and making our vision come to life.
